OUR PROCESS

With you every step of the way, we will craft a gown that is unique to you. Come to us with your own ideas and inspiration or make an enquiry about our design service.

We are experienced in designing from draping beautiful silks and bias cutting to more structured silhouettes, whilst fitting the individual curves of each bride to be. Whether it be the classical gown you have always imagined or a more contemporary take, we are here for you.

The made to measure process can be unfamiliar for some. Below is our  step by step guide to how we design and craft your wedding gown.

CONSULTATION

1 hour - 3 months prior

During your first consultation we will discuss both your gown and your needs for the day. Using inspiration that you have brought with you, we will sketch design options for your gown as we discuss the overall silhouette, details and mood for your gown, as well as material selection and the practicalities of the day, such as weather, location and activities planned.

For this session you will need:

  • inspiration images of gowns that you like or parts of gowns you like. This could be a sleeve detail/neckline shape/ fabric drape etc.
  • An idea of what suits your body shape and style.

During this session we will:

  • Design your gown - Together we will discuss your ideas and sketch them onto paper, to resolve a design that will be style appropriate and flattering.
  • Record your measurements - your body measurements will be taken, as well as a few photos to make sure that we can tailor a gown that is just right for your shape.
  • Discuss the undergarments that will be appropriate for your design.
  • Timeline - plan our timeline for fittings, payments and final collection.
  • Quotation - At this stage we will be able to provide an approximate quotation, as the exact price and amount of fabric is yet to be determined.

You will be sent a confirmation email, outlining everything discussed during our consultation, including an exact quotation and an invoice for your deposit. This will be a 50% part payment due prior to your first fitting.

After your first consultation, behind the scenes we will:

  • Source fabric options for appropriate colour and weight suitable for the design.
  • Draft our first pattern to the design of our sketch, using your custom body measurements.
  • Cut and sew the first fit toille in a like fabric to final.

FIRST FITTING

1 hour - 2 Months Prior

During our first fitting we will be fitting the base gown in toille form. This will ensure that the structure and support of the gown is adequate, comfortable and flattering to your figure, we will add some additional details during our second fitting.  The toille will be pinned and marked with changes to design lines and fit alterations , so that these can be transferred back to the pattern for the next fitting.

During this fitting we will:

  • Make any design and fit alterations that are necessary
  • Discuss the swatches that have been sourced and select the fabric to be used for your gown.
  • Discuss your veil style length and size if applicable.
  • Confirm our date for the second fitting.

For your fittings you will need:

  • Undergarments as discussed during the consultation
  • Shoes - if you have not yet decided upon your shoes for the day, please bring something of a similar height so that we can determine the length of the dress.

You will be sent an email confirming the date of our second fitting and an invoice for the second part payment. This will be a 20% part payment due prior to your second fitting.

After your first fitting, behind the scenes we will:

  • Transfer the fit and design changes from our fit session onto the pattern.
  • Pattern draft and add additional draping or detail to the toille
  • Re-cut and sew a second toille, or alter the existing one as required.
  • Draft and cut out your veil if necessary
  • Order the fabric and all components.

SECOND FITTING

1 hour - 6 weeks Prior

During our second fitting we will be checking the fit and design changes that have made from the first fitting, and checking that any added details such as drapes, frills or lace placements are sitting nicely on the gown.

At this stage there may be minor tweaks if any to the base fit as it is here that we can ensure that the gown is perfected and ready to be cut from the final fabrics.

During this fitting we will:

  • Make any design and fit alterations that are necessary

  • Finalise the pattern pieces for the addition details
  • Make any changes to your veil
  • Cut out and sew your final gown from the fabrics we have selected

 THIRD FITTING

I hour - 4 weeks Prior

The third fitting is where you will be trying on the real gown for the first time.

We will check here that all of the pattern work we have done through this process has translated well into the final fabric and as there is the chance of further adjustments we leave certain areas of the gown unfinished so that we can do this without over handling the gown.

During this fitting we will:

  • Check the gown for any small adjustments that may need to be made.
  • Confirm the veil is appropriate length and volume now that we can see it with the real dress.
  • Confirm our date for final fitting and pick up.

For your fittings you will need:

  • Undergarments as discussed during the consultation
  • Shoes - You will need to have your shoes ready at the latest by the second fitting.
  • Please make sure you are not wearing any make- up or faux tan during this fitting, as any spoiling of the fabric at this point may require re-cutting, sewing and hence additional labour charges.

You will be sent an email confirming the date of our third fitting and an invoice for the final part payment. This will be a 10% part payment due prior to your final fitting and pick up.

After your third fitting, behind the scenes we will:

  • Make any final adjustments to the gown if any
  • Complete the veil.
  • Close the gown completely and apply any hand finishing such as buttons and hem detail.
